Welcome to Lion Class

Class Teacher: Fatima

Hi, welcome to Lion Class! My name is Fatima and I have been working at College Park School for many years. I am from Kurdistan.

I was also a Humanities' teacher there for two years before I came to live and work in London. As a teacher, I find that working with our students is a very rewarding job! I learn along with the children, and seeing them making progress everyday makes me very happy.

This year I am working in primary again after first doing it in the beginning of my career, it was a great learning experience and I am excited to be back working in primary! In Lion Class, the children are sensory and need to be engaged and regulated emotionally- this is very important. They are non-verbal students who communicate from body language and vocalisation, using the PECS book also. PECS books are used to exchange symbols to request for something they would like. Our activities are sensory based to meet the needs of the children and keep them engaged.

We have attention autism sessions to improve attention span skills, we listen to our student’s voice so we know what to do to keep a positive environment and teach them how to ask for help. We use visual boards to help do this. We tailor activities to each child’s interest using motivator; this keeps things interesting for them. We are patient and give them space when we need it, we use Makaton too.

In Lion Class we work as a team to support the children and I hope this year is a good year for everyone.
