Drama

Drama at College Park School is an integral part of our student’s development.

Not only do we strive to improve all aspects of their communication, but through drama we aim to develop their sense of awareness about the world in which they live.

Taking a holistic approach and focusing on all our students’ different needs and abilities, drama is the perfect platform for them to follow practical instructions, improve listening and understanding skills and develop team ethic as we improvise, rehearse and perform together.

Drama is an inclusive subject which incorporates movement, imaginative play, sensory experiences and problem solving skills. The over riding theme of any drama lesson is to improve the level at which our students communicate and convey their thoughts and feelings. Evidence of this can be seen in small "in house" productions as well as our large scale performances that can be enjoyed by family and friends.

At College Park we view drama as a "confidence building" area that we take great pride in. Not only do we try to instil in our young people the ability to perform on a stage, but also teach them to understand the roles of stage crew, prop making, costume design and technical support.

Over the last few years the The@trical team working with College Park students and staff have engaged in numerous summer arts festivals at the Lyric Theatre, Hammersmith. The growth of our students within this setting and the sense of reward and occasion that surrounds these residencies are nothing short of astounding. Our time at the Lyric fills our whole school community with a sense of pride.

We hope to continue to build our drama department and expose our students to professional theatre, artists, creativity and live performance

James Rigby- Drama Teacher

My name is James and I have been working at College Park School since 2013. I was educated at Warwick University and the London Academy for Music and Dramatic Arts. I have a passion for drama and theatre and love to work within the Creative Arts team. I am fortunate that my work also sees me working at QEII Jubilee and other SEN provisions.

I believe Drama is a tremendous platform via which our children improve confidence, communication, sense of worth and understanding of the world. I'm privileged to have this role across Westminster Special schools and am constantly proud to see our children achieve and grow in this area.
