Word Aware

Full CalendarThe Training Calendar

This event will take place between 9:30am and 4:00pm on 19/05/2017

Anna Branagan & Stephen Parsons

19th May 2017, 9.30 – 16.00

‘Word Aware’ is a vocabulary teaching approach for spoken and written words that emphasises whole class and whole school learning. It is suitable for all children including those with speech, language and communication needs. ‘Word Aware’ is based on extensive reading as well as clinical experience. It is currently being used successfully in a number of schools.

Vocabulary is important in its own right, but it is also a powerful predictor of reading and academic success. Despite this it is seldom given the attention it requires within the curriculum. Research indicates that vocabulary learning needs a sustained and consistent approach. The presenters will outline a flexible approach that is straightforward to implement.

This is a fast-paced, fun and interactive workshop style day, which will leave participants well equipped to start ‘Word Aware’ in their schools or with individuals.
