Welcome to Elephant Class

Class Teacher: Olga Conesa

Hello! Welcome to Elephant Class, my name is Olga and I was born in Catalonia. I studied Education in Barcelona University and I finished my studies in Stockholm, where I specialised in the Swedish educational method “fritidshem” learning by doing and experiencing!

I believe that through education we have an opportunity to build a better society that includes everyone and provides people from all backgrounds, regardless of their race, social and economic positions or additional needs, with an opportunity to succeed and become valued members of the community. I trust in encouraging children to recognise their own strengths and weaknesses and in challenging their abilities to motivate them to progress and achieve to their full potential.

In Elephant Class we follow the semiformal curriculum, that focuses our learning in becoming more independent and providing us with opportunities to learn about our environment and how to communicate with the people around us. Some of us are verbal, others need Augmentative and Alternative Communication systems, and we all benefit from using Makaton and body language.

We like learning from real life experiences. We go shopping for our food tech lessons every week, which helps us practice our shopping and independence skills. We also enjoy going for walks to discover our community and raising our road safety awareness.
