Navigating Mealtimes with Sensory Challenges

Full CalendarThe Training Calendar

This event will take place between 2:00pm and 4:00pm on 12/03/2025

Presented by SEN Occupational Therapists

Outline

Are you a parent or school staff member looking to support children with feeding difficulties? Join us for our upcoming training on sensory and functional difficulties in feeding.

In this training, we will explore the common challenges that children may face when it comes to eating. We will discuss how sensory and functional difficulties can impact a child's development of eating skills, and how parents and caregivers can support children in overcoming these challenges.

We will provide strategies and environmental changes for addressing sensory difficulties, such as difficulty with the texture, taste, or smell of certain foods. We will also discuss functional difficulties, such as difficulty with using utensils, and will provide information on accommodations that can help children succeed at mealtime.

Description

During this session, we will cover:
  • Common challenges children may face when it comes to eating
  • Sensory and functional difficulties and how they can impact a child's eating skills
  • Strategies and interventions for addressing sensory difficulties
  • Information on tools and environment modifications

Outcome

By the end of the session, you will have a better understanding of why the child you are supporting may avoid certain foods, have a restricted diet or difficulties with feeding themselves. You will also have some strategies to try with the child or children you are supporting, or information about where you can seek professional support if this is required.
