This training involves both theoretical as well as practical application of the skills learned, with a follow-up video session on the 19th of July.

Talking Mats is a social enterprise whose vision is to improve the lives of people with communication difficulties by increasing their capacity to communicate effectively about things that matter to them. Our innovative, award-winning communication tool is based on extensive research and was designed by Speech and Language Therapists'.

The Talking Mats approach can be used in Education settings from early years to college and supports person-centred planning and practice. The approach supports pupils to explore and express ideas and feelings, have their voices heard in a meaningful way, involve pupils in setting outcomes and targets, supports transition and can improve safeguarding skills in children and young people.

It is highly practical and has systems for recording and maintaining changes to pupil's views over time. The CLCH NHS Trust employs Talking Mats with the children and young people on their case loads and this is a fantastic opportunity for school staff to be trained in effective ways to ensure pupil's views are heard, recorded and integrated into their educational outcomes.
