Please find below general tips for Autism in the classroom.
- Reduce verbal input
- Use simple, literal language [no sarcasm or irony]
- Increase visual support [visual schedules, diagrams, pictures, symbols]
- Give the child/young person time to process questions and instructions
- Use motivational rewards such as special interests
- Consider sensory needs and provide regular sensory breaks
- Provide quiet safe place for child/young person if they are in distress
